8.2 Two-Dimensional Centers of Mass

Check the center of mass (printer required)

Print a copy of this page with your printer in "landscape" mode. Paste or tape the page onto a piece of cardboard, and cut around the airplane figure to make a shape that you can dangle from a thread. Try to find a suspension point that will allow the figure to balance in a level position. This is equivalent to finding the horizontal component of the center of mass. You will want your suspension point to be above the vertical location of the center of mass.
